The Northern Pike Capital of the World

Cree River Lodge

Wapata Lake

Saskatchewan, Canada

Our lodge is located 300 miles north of Lac La Ronge in the far reaches of northern Saskatchewan. The main lodge is nestled in a sheltered area on the Cree River, adjacent to Wapata Lake, so great fishing is always available regardless of wind conditions. Our unique octagon lodge overlooks the Cree River and has plenty of room for dining and after dinner get togethers.

Our warm comfortable cabins have hot and cold running water and full bathroom facilities. There is also a wood burning stove in each cabin for those cool mornings and evenings. Clean linens and bedding are supplied for you and maid service is provided for you each day.

Morning and evening meals are served in the main lodge. Fresh coffee is delivered to your cabin at 6:00 am. Breakfast is served at 7 am. At noon enjoy fresh caught fish cooked to perfection by your guide. At 5 PM you will return to the lodge for hor'dourves and get ready for dinner. A buffet style, all you can eat, evening meal is served in the main lodge at 6:00 PM Arrangements can be made for after dinner fishing or you can relax Aaron the lodge, play cards or listen to stories of the ones that got away.

The maximum capacity of our lodge is sixteen people. In July and August we will try to accommodate only your group if you have 12 or more people in your party. If you are looking for a combined business , pleasure getaway we can easily arrange it for you. We are open from June 1 to September 15 and would love to have you as our guests.

We are the only lodge on Wapata Lake and are the only lodge on the Cree River system between Cree Lake and Black Lake. Because of this we have very little fishing pressure on our waters and have fantastic fishing year after year.

Besides the fishing on Wapata Lake, we offer a one day river excursion down the Cree River to the "Dunes". The Dunes is a beautiful natural phenomena. It is a huge sand esker which rises out of the water and covers approximately 1 square mile. The fishing in the small lake there and in the adjoining river can be absolutely fantastic.

We can boat of some of the best Northern Pike, Walleye and Arctic Grayling in the area. Each year many trophy northerns in the 30" to 45" range are caught and released and huge northerns in the 45" to 53" range (25 to 35 pounds) are not at all uncommon.

Golden Walleye are very abundant and are easily caught on simple rigging. In fact if you consider yourself a good Walleye fisherman you can probably come close to catching them one after another all day long. During August some of the best Walleye fishing in the whole area is right off our dock.

If the "high spirited" Arctic Grayling interest you, just a 10 minute boat ride from the lodge puts you in midst of these beautiful fighting fish. Grayling up to 3+ pounds are caught each year.

The practice of "catch and release" of trophy fish and using "barbless" hooks has enabled us to keep the fishing as good or better now as it was 20 years ago and will ensure great fishing for years to come.

Our boats and motors are the best in the business. We have new 16 foot Lund Alaskans with spacious, wide open floors, lots of storage and padded, swivel pedestal seats. These boats are very stable and are excellent to fish out of. All boats are powered by new 40 hp.4-stroke outboards and are operated by experienced native guides. All you do is sit back, relax and fish.
