Where Fishing & Happiness
is our Business!

Birch Island Lodge
This is your invitation to Canada's north country. Birch Island Lodge lies in the heart of Rainbow Country, in the district of the famous Manitoulin Island on Lake Huron (see map). Set against the green forests of the La Cloche ridge and contrasted by the sparkling blue waters of Georgian Bay, Birch Island Lodge is a north channel gem. Here within the unsurpassed beauty of our scenery, fishing is the primary attraction, with boating and hiking a close second. There's also lots to see by car. Explore Manitoulin Island, the largest fresh water island in the world, and shop in nearby Little Current, a popular tourist port-town. If you're looking for a holiday free from all pressures in the beauty of Northern Canada, come to Birch Island Lodge. You'll see why so many of our guests keep returning every year.

For Naturalists and Romantics
Birch Island Lodge is a perfect get-away set in an eco-tourist haven. A rustic retreat, the enchanting main lodge is located on its own island in full view of the guest cabins and connected by a series of charming board walkways and foot bridges. Cozy cabins for two or four persons nestled among the birch and pine trees dot the shore line. Each is complete with full washroom facilities and refrigerators. You are welcome to rent a cedar strip boat and explore the historical route of the voyageurs while savoring the vibrant sunset. Leave the pressures of everyday life while swimming in sparkling Georgian Bay, disappear into a good book or sun bathe and just relax.

A Fisherman's Dream
Since its opening in the early 1940's, anglers have been returning to Birch Island Lodge and the endless fishing waters of Georgian Bay's famous north channel. From the cool water of Frazier Bay and the rock walls of Bay Finn to the reefs and shoals of McGregor Bay this secluded fresh water heaven provides a perfect fish habitat. The area is as vast as it is spectacular. Reserving one of our professional guides is recommended for the first-timer. Experience the guide's culinary artistry as one of the "master chefs" prepares an open fire shore lunch just for you. The accommodations are strictly American Plan, with attention to detail the standard. From every fresh pot of coffee to full course meals, the dining is superb.

Fishes of the Area:
Fishing the waters of the North Channel is a challenge because of the many species of game fish available - Northern Pike, Muskie, Bass, Walleye, Lake Trout, Jumbo Perch, and Splake. Half of the big Northern caught are over 10 pounds and the many tropies mounted each year by our guests prove it! The North Channel is famous for its fighting Smallmouth Bass. They are delicious eating and exciting to catch, especially a 4 or 5 pounder! Splake fishing is excellent in the spring.

Comfort
The modern rustic Lodge, with large open fireplaces and dining room, is located on an island with a picturesque footbridge to the docks and 16 private cottages. All cottages are comfortable and attractively decorated to accommodate 2or 4 people in twin beds, with maid service, and linens and towels provided. All have electricity and modern conveniences.

Dining is a delightful experience in our cheerful dining room located in the main Lodge. Home cooking and baking is our specialty. And during the day, picnic lunches and equipment for fish cookouts on the shore are always available.

Extras
Boats and motors are always available for rent. Guides are experienced natives of the district. Live bait and a large selection of tackle may be purchased at the dock.
