North America is blessed with an abundance of flowing water. There are 3.24 million miles of river and streams in the US alone - enough to circle the glove 130 times. Yet, more than 2/3 of our fishing is done in lakes.

Most anglers are intimidated by moving water; they don't know where to find fish or how to catch them. The purpose of this book is to improve your river-fishing skills.

The book focuses on warmwater rivers and streams. Compared to trout streams, these waters have been forgotten by the outdoor press, even though they make up a much greater percentage of North America's total stream mileage.

In the first part of the book, Understanding Rivers and Streams, we'll show you how current speed, water temperature, cover and food determine where the fish will be in any river or stream. We'll also explain how changing water levels affect fish location. Without this knowledge, finding fish woul be strictly guesswork.

It would be impossible to show you exactly where to find fish and how to catch them in every conceivable type of warmwater stream, so we've organized the second part of the bokk, Fishing Rivers and Streams, into a series of case studies that represent most of the river-fishing situations anglers are likely to encounter.
